KWA WALE WAKINA DADA WAREMBO WANAOPENDA JUTUMIA WEAVING HAYA NDIYO MADHARA YAKE

Weaves are amazing. They let you try out new hairstyles and give your natural hair a break. They can be so amazing that sometimes we take them for granted. Weave abuse is when we do any and everything to our weave because well it’s not our real hair. While it can be hard to damage your weave when it’s been properly installed, weave abuse is possible and can shorten the life span of your weave and have your hair looking worse for the wear.
We’ve identified some major weave offenses. Read and see if you’re guilty of weave abuse!

1. Not Washing it Regularly

Just because your hair is braided and secure underneath does not absolve you from washing your hair on a regular basis. Weaves have product buildup and regular cleansing can prolong the hair’s health.

2. Applying Too Much Heat

Similar to regular washing, human hair used in weaving can experience heat damage. Sure the hair is much more resilient as its been treated, constant curling and flat-ironing can lead to advanced shedding and damage.

3. Being a Product Junkie

Weaves can be temperamental and all products are not created equal. Certain types of hair like Remi or Virgin can be resistant to certain products. When it comes to product use, consult your stylist or hair vendor to learn what types of products they recommend.

4. Too Much Tension

This type of abuse is much more a symptom of the hair stylist or installer. Too tight weaves can cause scalp damage and Alopecia.

5. Not caring for your Leave-out

Blending is in the details. Using weaves as protective styling is a great idea but you must take care to care for your leave-out the same way you would when you’re wearing your natural hair. Heat protectant and conditioning and are great ways to make sure your leave-out is in the same state post-weave.

6. Leaving Your Weave In Too Long

Everyone’s hair is different and some installs last longer than others. A good time frame to leave a weave in is 6-8 weeks. If you plan to do another install, remove the install, care for your natural hair before re-installing
